I offer online coaching that includes year-round throws programming for the Highland Games, as well as weekly video review of throws. Here is a picture of peak performance to motivate you:

Heavy/Light Throws Coaching finally offers a definitive alternative to the “go out and throw” philosophy that hamstrings so many athletes on their Highland Games journey. With Heavy/Light, we will use principles from the book to give you a plan of attack for each practice. As well, this program runs year-round, and as such will give your training a “big picture” not only in terms of your season, but as it concerns the progression of your career.

Throwing is a unique skill we must develop, but there is absolutely nothing saying that it cannot be approached with the same principles, structure, and discipline we (should) have in the weight room.

Perhaps the most valuable tool in Heavy/Light Throws Coaching is the weekly video review. Athletes will have the undivided attention of an experienced coach that will review a throw, drill, or variation, each week. The direct communication and feedback from these video reviews is invaluable, and many athletes credit their greatest progress to them. Used in combination with the weekly programming, you will make unprecedented progress in both your comfort level with the implements, and your distances in competition.

Growing up as a baseball player, Mike transitioned to fencing and chased the Olympics for a decade. Since then, he has competed in Powerlifting, Strongman and CrossFit. He is now a Highland Games Athlete, and won the 2016 U.S. Highland Games Lightweight National Championship, and in 2019 he won a Master’s World Championship. In 2017, Mike published ‘Heavy/Light: Periodized Throwing for the Highland Games.‘ Mike is also a CrossFit Level 1 Certified Coach, creates dedicated strength programming for Highland Games athletes, and trains youth athletes in baseball and track & field. Mike’s core philosophy is that in order to become a better athlete, you must gain strength, but you must also learn how to apply it with speed and precision.
